Dubbed as the answer to any fashion emergency, the little black dress has secured its place as an eternal fashion must-have in any girl’s closet. But as much as it has been the one answer, the quick fix, the go-to apparel, the little black dress has also curbed women’s imaginations when it comes to dressing up for an event. Admit it, the one tried and tested solution when dressing up has made us all fashion lazies. So to snap us all from this, a little dress rehab is in order to stop our over dependence on the little black dress.
The Little White Dress
What better way to start the little black dress detox than with its exact polar opposite – the little white dress. I know most of you will be apprehensive about this idea, after all wearing white in a party where red wine is served is a terrifying thought. But a white dress in a sea of people in little black dresses can instantly turn you into a vision.
Another trick that the white dress does is it makes you more approachable in parties or gatherings. Using the movie and TV trope of good guy wears white and bad guy wears black, wearing a white dress gives you the impression of being light, carefree and innocent, so people tend to walk up to you more easily, whereas darker colored clothes makes you look aloof, or should I say fashionably aloof?
The Little One Sleeve Dress
There’s something so sexy about the one sleeve dress. Maybe it’s because it exposes one of the sexiest parts of a woman’s body, which are her shoulders or the illusion that you’re showing just a tiny bit of skin while remaining covered up for the most part.
Although this dress can also come in black, why not use it to experiment with prints such as a floral one sleeve dress for the summer season that’s so Topshop or Forever 21? It keeps your style youthful and fun, also it’s great as a casual wear staple. For the evenings, you can either go with lots of drapes (being one sleeved it’s not too overwhelming having lots of drapes since your bare arms and shoulders provide a break of sorts from just draped fabric) or something body conscious ala Jennifer Lopez or Blake Lively.
The Little Sequined Dress
This season is a great time to stock up on sequined dresses or at least to get a fashionable plus size sequin dress. Designers like Michael Kane, Marchesa and Salvatore Ferragamo some amazing sequined dresses in their collections, Michael Kane especially who has rainbow colored sequined dresses. I’m not kidding, like the dress is literally dipped in rainbow and made from sequins. What is a more fabulous combination? Or better yet what’s a more anti-thesis to a plain colorless dress than a super colorful one that sparkles?
